Kohinoor

Many have heard about Kohinoor, and others may have seen her on TV, either as a vocalist, actress or a dancer.

On Saturday, (or Sunday) she will entertain with a seven man band at City Hall square. In addition, the tabla virtuoso Jai Shankar will appear as a guest performer during her concert.

Her artistic merits are many. Kohinoor is a qualified dancer, she has taken part in several musicals, done small roles on TV and cinema, in addition to larger roles in theatre plays. She writes her own texts and composes her own music.

Her music style is quite varied, and should therefore not be labelled. Kohinoor herself calls it a mixture of Hip Hop and world music, and will be recognized because of her characteristic and strong voice, despite of her 45 kilos. The melodies and the choir arrangements are sophisticated, and the rhythms are cheeky and without compromises. The texts are in connection with her own journey.

Kohinoor herself is from Bangladesh. The band consists of persons with long musical experience, and is marked by ethnic diversity. Examples are Charles Mena, Andrè Viervoll, Håkon Rasmussen, Eirik Askeroy, Calvin Ray Stiggers,. Ninu Visnu Adhi and Asta Busingye Lydersen. A nice mixture of eastern, western and African musicians who are all residing in Norway.

It is hard not to be influenced by the band’s charm on stage, and the artists’ personal aura. Kohinoor is an eccentric personality who is at the same time down to earth. Her humming is warm and the tone sensitive. As a qualified dancer she moves as few others and handles her shows in a funky and self-assured way.

Don’t miss the chance to see Kohinoor live!
